The night watchman was the nighttime security at the building housing Applied Cryogenics in the original storyboard for "Space Pilot 3000". He appears to be somewhat disinterested in his job, as he is just sitting around reading the New York Post. Fry greets him at the desk while delivering pizza to the office, and the watchman responds by clucking his tongue and pointing his finger.

Trivia
- The watchman is reading the New York Post, which has the headline "2000! Doomsayers Cautiously Upbeat". The newspaper would appear in the finished episode, in a newspaper box where Fry parks his bicycle outside the building.
