Everyone else thought it was a result of ocean madness. She then appeared and brought Fry outside at night where they did things together like watching animals fight and eventually they fell in love. She brought Fry to Atlanta and was followed by the rest of the crew where Fry decided he would live with her. Fry finally left when he found out how mermaids reproduce. Umbriel then had to find someone else to escort her to the Debutante Ball.
