Patchcord Adams is an entertainer on the street whose pants fall down/entertainment robot at Cedars-Sinewave Hospital/mascot of blernsball/clown at Cookieville Orphanarium. He is primarily a robotic version and parody of Patch Adams a man who entertained sick people at the hospital, who was famously portrayed by Robin Williams in a film.

Patchcord Adams was first seen in a cheering crowd when the Planet Express crew acted out the ending of the final episode of Single Female Lawyer, which foiled the Omicronians' plan of destroying Earth.

In A Head in the Polls, while Fry, Leela and Bender were watching the C-SPAN 9 election, Fry mentions Patchcord Adams by saying "If I were registered to vote, I'd send these clowns a message by staying home on election day and dressing up like Patchcord Adams."

In a deleted scene for Parasites Lost, Leela and Fry see Patchcord Adams who loses his trousers. Fry laughs harder than Leela and Leela says he is good, but not that good. Then Fry explains to Leela that it is so funny because the clown obviously has a career, that a business man nearby is laughing only to support him, despite the fact that his wife is more interested in the clown himself, though according to Fry, the clown might be gay. Which is why it is so funny.

Another time, Patchcord Adams visited Bender at Cedars-Sinewave Hospital, who had been paralyzed by a magnetic can opener accident, and told the Planet Express crew and Bender a few jokes.

He then asked Bender if he could move his arms, to which Bender responded "if I weren't I'd be strangling you". After looking at Bender's chart, he escaped off.

Another time, Patchcord Adams appeared at Madison Cube Garden while Leela was playing blernsball. Leela didn't seem to recognise the clown, since she was concentrating on blernsball.

When Fry, Leela and Bender became superheroes, Mayor Poopenmeyer summoned the superheroes by pressing the nose on a picture of Patchcord Adams.

When the EyePhone came out, he became one of Fry's followers, but when Mom activated the Twit-Worm, he became one of the zombies and bought the EyePhone 2.0.

It is revealed in Yo Leela Leela that he's an entertainer at Cookieville Orphanarium. He used to come on Thursdays, but since Warden Vogel filled in a slot for Abner Doubledeal, he now comes on Tuesdays.
