The Story
Act I
Farnsworth jabs Bender between the eyes with the finglonger and asks him to help test the new and improved What-If Machine. He asks "What if I ruled the world?" but nothing happens so he asks "What if I hit it with a hammer?" The machine starts working and Bender is inaugurated as President of Earth, his generosity and excessive celebration makes him very popular, until the value of the dollar drops. He declares war in hopes of regaining popularity, one of the planetshit in the crossfire is Omicron Persei 8 and with death imminent, Bender turns himself off and the scenario ends. Zoidberg wants to ask a question, but Hermes asks one first: "What if the world was perfectly organised?" the machine shows Hermes seeing the building and nearby birds are all perfectly organised. In order to experience it to its fullest he sits at the conference table with his feet up. The scenario ends.
Act II
Additional Info
Quotes
- Zapp: A war to end all wars, you say?
Bender: No, just one that will make me popular again.
Zapp: Without a defined enemy, my suggestion is to shoot randomly in all directions. - Lrrr: People of Earth! I am Lrrr of the planet Omicron Persei 8!
Ndnd: You don't need to shout. They're right next to you.
Continuity
- Agnew is in several scenes, confirming that the comics are still set before Into the Wild Green Yonder.
- While the staff are showering:
- Fry sings Walking on Sunshine
- A black bar covers Zoidberg's mouth, this is in line with his misunderstanding that the human male reproductive organ is in the neck.
- Oddly, a black bar appears over Leela's butt, which, like the other crew members', has been shown before.
Allusions
- Fry and Leela's date montage has references to Star Wars, Alien and comic book artist Howard Chaykin
Goofs
- This issue is named for the "Anthology of Interest" series of episodes. However the title "Anthology of Interest II" is already taken by an episode, it may be that Bongo forgot this episode existed or that they forgot the previous issue of this theme was called "Twice Told Tales of Interest". It should be noted that there is a similar series of Simpsons comics and episodes under the title "Treehouse of Horror", however these are both numbered from one upwards, which would have been the intention here.
- During Bender's inauguration, Zoidberg's clothing is pink rather than blue.
- When he is first seen, Kif's sleeves are missing.
- When Fry is telling Hermes that his story was boring, "Put" is written as "But".
- When suggesting they get Hermes during Amy's scenario, Leela's hand is Human rather than Decapodian.
